*Responsibilities:* Assist with field work in lakes and streams,
laboratory behavioral experiments, lab maintenance, fish care, and data
processing and analysis. Responsibilities include assisting with
research projects evaluating recruitment, behavior, reproductive
strategies and management of largemouth bass, population ecology of
muskellunge and stream and river ecology restoration. Work will be
conducted in conjunction with faculty, graduate students, and other
research assistants.

 SALARY RANGE:  $36.75 - $44.68 per hour. This position is represented and non-exempt from overtime.

position is available as part of ongoing research projects on population
genetics and molecular evolution in various vertebrate systems. The
successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary research team

ENTRIX, Inc. is seeking an Mid-Level Fisheries Biologist / Aquatic Ecologist to work with a multidisciplinary team of accomplished biologists, hydrologists, geologists, engineers and planners on a variety of interesting and technically challenging projects in California and the western United States.


Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in ecology or aquatic science (Master’s Degree a plus)
  2. Five or more years of relevant professional experience
  3. Field and supervisory experience working with field teams.
  4. Professional experience with anadromous and anadromous fish, resident salmonids; as well as other West Coast threatened native and exotic fish species and endangered species consultation
  5. Experience in stream ecology, water quality, and environmental assessments
  6. Project/Task management experience
  7. Strong proficiency in quantitative analysis with at least basic statistical knowledge a must.

Responsibilities
Consultant Selection and Management:
Manage development of technical scopes of work and requests for Proposal for aquatic biology studies to be conducted by environmental consultants; conduct proposal evaluations; and select successful bidder. Manage environmental consultants conducting aquatic biology studies and provide technical oversight. Provide technical quality assurance for contract work and contract administrative control.

Study Design and Management:
Plan and organize aquatic biology studies (e.g., population inventories, habitat assessments, and environmental impact assessments associated with fish, amphibians, macroinvertebrates, and other components of the aquatic ecosystem). Manage aquatic biology studies in support of: 1) obtaining licenses and permits required for operation of our facilities (primarily hydroelectric projects), and 2) regulatory compliance.

Development of Environmental Agreements:
Develop and propose environmental protection, mitigation, and enhancement (PM&E) measures to address project impacts. Prepare written and verbal presentations in support of PM&E measures. Participate in collaboration meetings with resource agencies and NGOs to reach agreement on PM&E measures.

Preparation of Technical Documents:
Manage preparation of detailed biological reports associated with field studies, and review and edit consultant reports. Prepare input for project licensing and permitting applications, and respond to comments and requests from resource agencies and NGOs.

Review and comment on technical documents pertaining to aquatic biology issues on projects.

Study Performance:
As necessary, lead or participate in aquatic biology studies (in northern, central, and southern California, often in remote locations), and manage data compilation and analysis.
Provide technical support to client organizations, biological task managers, and consultants.
Work independently or as part of a team with other technical experts, our clients, or consultants.

Requirements
* 5+ years work experience on aquatic biology field studies
* Work experience includes project management of multi-disciplinary teams, data analysis and technical report preparation and review
* Work experience with collaborative agency and NGO negotiations and development of consensus agreements
* Technical project management skill sets including scope, schedule, and budget management of complex projects comprised of multi-disciplinary teams.
* Business understanding and skill sets including financial, auditing, and business administration experience.
* Proficiency with data management, statistical analysis, and report preparation
* Aquatic biology (fisheries, amphibians, macroinvertebrates, stream geomorphology) sampling techniques
* Stream and reservoir ecology study methods
* Environmental impact assessment
* PC applications (MS Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Access, ArcView, and database applications)
* Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
