Executive Committee | Bylaws | Committees | Student Subunits Mike Saiki, President CONTACT: (530) 406-0173 Phone BIOGRAPHY: Mike has been a member of the American Fisheries Society since 1975. Mike earned a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona where he conducted research on the ecology of fishes in a mitigation backwater along the Lower Colorado River. After graduation, Mike accepted a position as a fishery biologist with the USFWS Fish-Pesticide Research Laboratory at their Research Field Unit in Dixon, California, where he investigated environmental contaminants associated with agricultural drainwater and acid-mine drainage. Although Mike remained in Dixon his entire career, he was administratively transferred to two other federal research centers. Mike recently retired from the USGS Western Fisheries Research Center and currently serves as a USGS volunteer. Mike remains interested in contaminants such as heavy metals and selenium, and in the life history and ecology of native species such as the Santa Ana sucker, the desert pupfish, and the California freshwater shrimp. |
